Dear parent/guardian,

As you will be aware, the Prime Minister announced on Wednesday night that the majority of schools and colleges are to close today – Friday 20th March – to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

However, the Government has said that schools must remain partially open for specific groups of children, including those with EHCPs, those with social workers and those with parents who are key workers.  The definition of key workers has been confirmed by the Government today, information at https://bex.ac/covid19-keyworkers

We are aware that many of our children will fall into these categories – but not all. We want to reassure you that we have plans in place which we review daily to ensure we are able to offer continuum as much as possible in relation to learning.  All pupils have access to on line learning via Education City or Google Classroom and work packs have also been provided either directly or sent out today by post.

Today we have been establishing exactly which of our children have parents who are key workers.  We have also made the decision in light of the reduced number of staff available to offer all education to pupils at Horizons Academy on the Endeavour Academy site which will also mean that hot meals can continue to be provided to our pupils at this time.  The schools will be open for pupils from 8.45am each day until 3pm, although we will be reviewing this daily based on pupil numbers and staff attendance.

Aspire pupils will continue to attend the Aspire site at this time, however we will review this on a daily basis as we may need to combine our schools onto one site if staffing levels reduce further,

This is a challenging time for us all here at London South East Academies Trust, but our priority continues to be the health, wellbeing and safeguarding of all our staff and our children.  Where pupils are not in school, daily contact will be made by a member of staff to ensure that every pupil is safe, well and can access the learning provided.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you as parents and as part of our school community for your ongoing support and for bearing with us as we face this difficult situation.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the Head of School if you have any queries or concerns. We will provide further updates as they arise.

With kind regards,

Jo Southby
Executive Head Teacher
